In order to get extra credit, Simon volunteers to paint a holiday mural with a few guys in his school. The other volunteers don't like Simon because they are inhaling paint fumes and are afraid he will report them for breaking the rules. Meanwhile, Mary is suddenly thrilled about her community service after she meets the man of her dreams: Robbie Palmer. Mary tries to get Lucy to talk to Eric and Annie about him but she is reluctant to do so. Matt is up in arms when he learns that Shana is transferring to NYU and that his father provided a reference without his knowledge, and Ruthie wins first prize in her art-school project: a sculpture of the Camden family noses.

  • Adam LaVorgna makes his first appearance as Robbie Palmer on 7th Heaven. He would later become a series regular in the fifth season.
  • This episode is the most viewed episode in the 4th season of 7th Heaven, with a staggering 9.04 million viewers tuning in.
  • This episode was nominated for, and received a commendation from, the PRISM Awards in 2000. The PRISM Awards are an annual awards show that recognizes the achievements of performers in the field of substance abuse and mental health education, prevention, and treatment. A commendation is like an honorable mention - it's given to something that was really good, but didn't quite make the cut for the top prize.

  • Marianne Mullerleile guest stars in this episode as Simon's teacher. She is also known for her role in the ABC sitcom, Life with Bonnie, as well as the movie Return to Me, which she starred in alongside Bonnie Hunt, who also directed the film.
  • Fred Meyers who plays Chad also plays the character Tom Gribalski in the hit Disney Channel series Even Stevens.
  • Jessica Biel (Mary Camden) and Adam LaVorgna (Robbie Palmer) actually met before this episode on the set of her film with Jonathon Taylor Thomas in "I'll Be Home for Christmas". Not only that, but they also started dating in real life right around when this episode aired.
  • Suzanne Fitzpatrick, who wrote this episode, used to be Brenda Hampton's (Creator) assistant back in the earlier seasons of 7th Heaven.
