"Hoop Dreams" is the eighteenth episode of the 4th season of 7th Heaven. On its original airing, this episode scored 5.99 million viewers.

Synopsis[]

After Mary dreams about playing basketball with the players from the Los Angeles Lakers, she gets a call from her coach that makes her think she might get drafted by the WNBA. Eric and Annie feel left out when they overhear Simon and Lucy talking about how they don't want to have lives like theirs. So Eric and Annie spend more time with their kids to try to explain why they chose the roles they have in life. Matt decides he wants to travel to New York so he can be with Shana again, but then realizes he doesn't have enough money for the trip.

Notes[]

  • At the time this episode aired, Jessica Biel (Mary Camden) had recently appeared nearly-nude in Gear Magazine. There was speculation that she wanted to leave 7th Heaven due to her lack of starring roles in movies. It was thought that she was hoping her boss (Aaron Spelling) would fire her so she could be released from her contract.
  • The episode begins with four Los Angeles Lakers players making cameo appearances as guest stars. Devean George, Derek Fisher, John Salley and A.C. Green all make brief appearances in the opening scene of the show. They don't say any lines.

Trivia[]

  • This episode was originally supposed to air on April 3, 2000, but The WB pushed it back a week to April 10, 2000. This is the second time in 7th Heaven's fourth season that The WB has pushed an original episode's airdate back by a week.
